Plotter Quotations
We have listed below some additional questions that you may want to ask as part of your discussions when obtaining a plotter quotation from a company ?
Q) Does the price stated include VAT? A) Generally plotters are sold business to business and prices are Ex VAT)
Q) What is the lead time for delivery? A) Most plotter resellers purchase from the same main distribution warehouses for Canon, HP and Epson! Very few keep them in stock at their premises due to the size of the boxed units. So if you have phoned around and most resellers are saying that their is a lead time and one reseller is saying they can deliver - Check before placing your order. They may be saying what you want to hear just to get the order. Then you will end up waiting anyway! Get written confirmation of delivery dates if you are concerned.
Q) Is The Stand & Basket Included? A) Normally it is the A1 plotters that are not supplied with a stand and basket and are optional extras
Q) Is The Network Card Included? A) No real rule of thumb about this! Simply ask or check the specification
Q) Quoted Price is much cheaper than the other resellers? A) Generally in the current business climate resellers work on small margins so prices quoted should be very similar. If you come across a quote that is so low it may be that the plotter is either ex-demo or a refurbished plotter.
Q) Added Value To The Purchase A) Although margins are small on plotters ask whether the reseller can provide added value to the purchase e.g. Free Delivery, Inks or Paper etc.
Q) Are You Buying On Price or A Reasonable Price with Expertise? A) Their are many box shifters selling plotters and if you are purely buying on price that is fine. However, their are some cases when you may need to go back to the reseller after purchase for advice! If all they do is box shift you may not get the answers you had hoped for and it may mean phoning the manufacturer up and going through their automated call system. A good reseller will be able to tell you about all the various points about the plotter against its competitor plus what consumables work well with it e.g. Papers, films and Canvas etc. A good reseller will also know about Firmware updates for a specific plotter and the typical problems that various plotters have.
Q) Reseller With Integrity or Just Another Sale A) Finally listen to how you are treated over the phone by the sales representative, are they interested in what they are selling and wanting to offer a service?
